yup. not even marriage and the name 'duitsman' can cure this.
"if anything can go wrong, IT WILL"
you know, i'm kinda getting to liking this new roller coaster of a life i'm leading! nah, just joking.
a few days ago, krystina was on my mac book when all the sudden the screen went gray. she turned it on and off a few times when i said to her "what in the world are you doing!" she timidly replied that the computer quit on her. ugh. we tried to reboot, but to no avail nothing happened. i had always thought that macs don't crash...well, in reality, the applications DON'T. my worst fears were starting to surface. all my pictures that of course I backed up weekly, but not on an external drive. i have so many other things to be concerned with at the moment that i just tried to put it out of my pretty little head (no pun intended). dan tried to reboot, but again, it wasn't even responding that i HAD a hard drive. that's when i knew that my irish-ness was serving no such service.
made an appointment at the apple store. again, tried not to worry to much about it...IT'S ONLY A YEARS WORTH OF PHOTOS, VIDEO'S AND SOME OTHER IMPORTANT SCHTUFF. when the techie hooked it up we knew. i had to face reality. man this stinks. my heart dropped to my stomach i mean come on what else could go wrong at this very stinky time of life?? can't i get a break somewhere?! we talked for a short time about what we wanted to do and decided to keep my broken hard drive and replace it with something else so that in the near future (when it's much brighter) we can pay some super smart genius to disassemble the old one and retrieve my much cherished memories. seems pretty simple yeah? since my mac is still under warranty they would replace for free, but keep the broken hard drive and thus never being able to attempt retrieval of those memories. i surely didn't want that. so off we went.
we hit circuit city and then best buy for a new hard drive. make our purchase, drive ALL the way home and dan sits to fix me up. now he needs a very tiny star shaped screw driver (which he doesn't own, big shocker). so he goes to home depot and returns home again ready to fix me up. several minutes later he comes up stairs really upset. he tells me that as he's trying to load my computer its not reading the new hard drive so he pulled it out to take a peek and low and behold, the *new* one isn't really so new! some smart person stuck their broken down mac hard drive into the box and returned it. wow, super genius. what's even better, is that best buy didn't even check. more genius people. dan was so mad. he quickly left the house and headed back to best buy. a short time later he calls and says that he was so mad when he left he forgot his wallet! lol. what can i say, this is our luck everyday. us lucky irish/dutch. thankfully they returned it with no i.d. (smart again) and we are on our way.
*ADVICE*
people, back up your photos!! put them on an external hard drive, copy them to dvd, cd's or what have you. put them in a safe place. big lesson learned. BIG.
