Nebraska: Chronicles 2

Another sampling of our surroundings.

Top left corner is Carhenge. A very interesting place to visit...just a few short miles out of town. Yes, those are real cars! Someone, or a group of some people created this artsy monument for travelers coming through. It's a fun place to walk, breathe, and enjoy the beauty that surrounds you. I couldn't get over how quiet it was, all you could hear was the corn stalks in the fields rustling with the breeze.

Bottom left, well, we'll just call him 'Mr. Ed'. Krystina and I were taking a drive and I saw these horses grazing and couldn't resist stopping. Mr. Ed came right up to me...wish I would have had some carrots to feed him! Right corner is this huge feed tower in town. For us, this is now our marker, the sign in the road that says "you are home". Even though it's not really HOME. Bottom right is a shot of the rail yard. And here are a few more...

The rail yard is pretty amazing to me. If you look closely, you will see that there are about 14 trains waiting...the majority of the trains here move coal from Wyoming and Montana. I love watching them all loaded up with about 6 engines pulling the coal. This is just one of the areas in the yard. The other area, which we should be photographing next week (family day at the yard), is the mechanical area where they pull the locomotives in for service.

This photo looks like a miniature train set, but believe me, it isn't! As I stood on the bridge taking photos, several trains passed by. Trains are like beasts...they are massive steel creatures! At night when it's late and the business on the main street below our apartment is quiet, I LOVE to listen to the trains rolling down the tracks. That clinking of the train wheels...weird, I know.

Well, if truth be told...that weirdness was VERY sarcastic. I mean for reals?? I remember all too well sleeping in Taters bed listening to that darn drain horn in the middle of the night! I live in Nebraska now, I'm not that weird...lol.

WOW ! These are weird. My kids were staring at them when I looked at them the first time and were trying to figure them out. LOL SO cool. Trains are pretty cool.
